The Diamondbacks won two of three against the Padres this weekend. The victories were by a score of 5-1 and 2-1 and the loss was by a score of 8-7 on Saturday.
Brandon Webb won his sixth consecutive decision Sunday, improving to 6-0 on the season. He lowered his ERA to 1.98 in outdueling reigning Cy Young winner Jake Peavy who was dealt his first loss of the year. Webb allowed five hits in six innings, and struck out five as well. Peavy struck out nine in 7.2 innings allowing just two runs. In a game when offense was scarce, Chris Snyder came up big, hitting his first homer of the season. The Padres Khalil Greene was the only player with two hits in the game.
In a game on FOX on Saturday, the game went into the 13th before the Padres won with a run in the bottom of the 13th. Tadahito Iguchi hit his first homer of the year to send the Padres home winners.
Micah Owings bat was impressive going 3-3 with two runs and an RBI. He was roughed up on the mound however, going just five innings giving up five hits, five runs, and striking out five. Justin Germano did not have any more success, giving up six on six hits in his five innings. Adrian Gonzalez had a big game with three hits and Iguchi had two hits including the homer. Chris Young hit his sixth homer of the year and had two hits. Eric Byrnes and Orlando Hudson each also had two hits.
In Friday’s game, Randy Johnson got his first victory of the year. He went six strong innings, allowing just one run on three hits. He walked only two while racking up seven K’s. He also had a hit at the dish. Randy Wolf was roughed up for five runs on seven hits in just four innings. Orlando Hudson had two hits, as did Miguel Montero. Mark Reynolds hit his seventh homer of the year in the game.
