When going through a routine physical in early February, starting pitcher Doug Davis was expecting nothing more than that: routine. What came from that physical was anything but. Team physician Roger McCoy informed Davis on Wednesday that a firm nodule found during the physical was a form of cancer.
Davis plans to make his first two starts of the season before undergoing surgery to remove the lump from his throat. After the surgery it will be about four to six weeks before Davis can be back on the mound.

Doug,
I am so very sorry to hear about your diagnosis. What I can say is that with everyone’s prayers and faith in the
Lord up above you will pull through this. My mother was diagnosed with cancer and lived about 25 years after her
surgery. I have faith that you will make it through this. My prayers are with you and the surgeons. God bless
you and may he wrap his arms around you.
